about lou suSi

i am a lifelong artist, designer and performer — living and working with my family on The North Shore of Massachusetts just outside of The Greater Boston Area

my approach to art and design follows an interdisciplinary and continuous evolution that started with more traditional art making with movement into more and more experimental and live performative work

i studied fine art at University of Massachusetts at Lowell, earning a BA in Art in 1992 — while at UML, Brenda Pinardi and James Coates were my closest, most influential mentors — both professors exposed me to a wide and rich variety of materiality, technique and art historic research to enrich my thinking and deepen my sense of self as an artist in context with the world

after 16 years of working as a professional artist and designer, i returned to academia and began graduate research and work in 2008 at Dynamic Media Institute, the future-forward graduate program in design and technology at Massachusetts College of Art and Design — at DMI i explored a modern day phenomenological human state of being i called cyberSurrealism which culminated in my thesis confounded: future fetish design performance for human advocacy‘ — i earned my MFA in Design from DMI in 2012 after curating / co-curating 5 art exhibition-events, including: American Cheese: an introspection; provocative.objects: the extradition; mediaLuscious: Design + Art Review; fauxShow; and forsensicEvidence: a cyberSurreal investigation

much of my work explores humorous themes and concepts, including elements of comedy, satire, parody, laughter, social commentary, absurdity and stops along the vast and perplexing spectrum of ‘funniness’

i continue working with various evolving streams of my work in art and design today
